Now Playing Tracks

On August 15th, we experienced a first - our first fall leaf! It was crazy! I didn’t know that the leaves would start turning so soon! So, I had Landon hold it & pose with it! Then we continued playing with sidewalk chalk!

Today, the 29th, we started going through the alphabet for the second time. This week is the letter A. We made Apple Crisp today. We measured and mixed together all the ingredients for the topping & then Landon helped me tear up the apples (I had to remind him not to eat all the apples as he was tearing them up) and then he sprinkled the topping on the apples. It was delicious, but even if it had tasted terrible, Landon had fun helping in the kitchen. So proud of my little boy! He’s growing up so fast!

I decided to make Ants on a Log the other day. Banana, Sunflower Seed Butter, and Raisins. I forgot, however, that Ants on a Log uses celery, not a banana. Oops! Oh well! We made Ants on a Birch Log instead! Landon LOVED it! Hope the photos made you smile!

Wordless Wednesday… I haven’t done a post like this in a while. First saw the idea from my friend, Jodee a few years back. So, even though this post isn’t quite “Wordless”, it’s limited in words! ; )
I took this picture of Landon this morning outside our house. He was patiently waiting and smiling. I can’t believe that my little boy is almost 2 and a half! Wow! He’s getting so big. He sings ALL the time, talks all the time and even believes that if he “Moo’s” at the trees that they will fall over. I love this little boy SO much and I can’t remember what life was like before he came into my life.

So, today was a rough day. Landon was very sad, very tired, and he said his mouth was hurting. Poor little boy! To top it all off, he woke up early from his nap because of a nightmare! His night got a little better when he had some Strawberry Pie and Cool Whip! Let’s hope tomorrow is a better day!

Post-Rainy Day Fun

So, what do you do with a very active two year old on a rainy day? Sitting around & watching TV is always an option… oh wait, NO it’s not! What a waste of a day! So, here’s what we’ve done so far today - we’ve been quite busy!

Landon washed his plastic eggs (he didn’t know it then, but he was getting ready for a special surprise egg hunt after lunch). He got SOAKED in the process and drank a little bit of soapy water, but he had a good time!

After changing him out of his wet clothes, we got into some warmer clothes & a sweatshirt & headed outside. I bought Landon his first pack of sidewalk chalk in the dollar section at Target a few weeks ago & today was the perfect day to head out & try it out. Landon really liked the big chalk & enjoyed coloring in the shapes that Mommy drew.

Since he had his Wellies on, I decided to let Landon run in the yard - you can see the sun starting to come out in this picture.

The puddles were gone, but Landon remembered stomping in the puddles yesterday, so we found an itty bitty puddle and “stomped” in it.

After Lunch, I told Landon we were going on an egg hunt. I had ten eggs. I filled two of the ten eggs with a “surprise” (aka one jelly bean). I hid them around the living room and Landon put them in the basket. Once we collected all ten eggs, we opened them and looked for the “surprise” in two of them! He loved finding the jelly beans. Such a fun day!

What have you done today? Have you had a fun day? I hope so!

“Recent” Pictures

These pictures were taken on January 30th, 2011. It was an unusually warm day that day (we were wearing short sleeves, for goodness sake!), so we took advantage of the beautiful weather! Here are three pictures of that day! Enjoy!

Yes, Landon, you do Rock! You’re so stinkin’ cute!

                                             Love your smile, babe!

Nathan & Daddy “flying” outside in the grass! What a great Daddy you have, Landon!

The Closer I get to the cross…

God has funny ways of getting my attention… like “random” songs :)

Landon & I were in the car this morning on our way to Sams Club. I normally just turn on the Sirius Christian station “The Message,” but since I had my ipod with me, I decided to see what Landon wanted to listen to. Kids music? No. Psalty? No. Oldies? No. Well, since nothing is going to get a Yes today, I decided to put my ipod on the Genius playlist (something I don’t think I’ve ever done in the car), just to see what would come up. Well, don’t you know that the very first song was “The Closer I get to the Cross” by Palisade. If you have not heard this song before, I highly suggest you go to itunes and listen to the minute long clip - it’s definitely worth your time. I would even suggest paying the .99 to have it in your playlist, but that’s just my opinion ; )

I have to be honest, the first few lines I sang mindlessly, not even paying attention to the words. But then, I heard the words of the chorus “The closer I get to the cross, the more I clearly see The holiness of You and the sinfulness in me.” OUCH! Ok God, you’ve got my attention now! I’ve listened to this song hundreds of times and I promise that this is the first time this song has hit me like this. You see, my Pastor, Phil, has been teaching on Sin and God’s holiness the past few weeks. It was like it suddenly all came together and it was an awesome moment of “Wow! I totally get it now!”

Thank you, God, for using “random” things, like my ipod’s Genius playlist and the words of a faithful pastor to speak to my heart. I hope that this song is an encouragement to you as it has been to me!

Carrie

ps…This video is of one of the original writers, Johnny Lemonis singing this song. I really like his version too : )

The Closer I Get to the Cross (Scott Krippayne/John Lemonis/Tony Wood) Lyrics:

Verse 1 There is safety in the distance where it’s out of sight and mind, Where life is unexamined for fear of what I’ll find. And once again in solitude, my soul is unfulfilled, But I press through the crowd and step toward the hill.

Chorus The closer I get to the cross, the more I clearly see The holiness of You and the sinfulness in me. There’s a beauty in the agony that draws me to this place. The closer I get to the cross, the more amazed I am by grace.

Verse 2 There are times I want to turn my head so I don’t have to face the truth Of everything You’ve done for me and what I’ve done to You. But here my eyes are opened and it breaks my heart to know Just how deep the roots of all my failures grow.

Chorus The closer I get to the cross, the more I clearly see The holiness of You and the sinfulness in me. There’s a beauty in the agony that draws me to this place. The closer I get to the cross, the more amazed I am by grace.

Bridge Draw me nearer, nearer, Blessed Lord, to the cross where Thou hast died. Draw me nearer, nearer, Blessed Lord, to Thy precious bleeding side.

Chorus The closer I get to the cross, the more I clearly see The holiness of You and the sinfulness in me. There’s a beauty in the agony that draws me to this place.  The closer I get to the cross, The closer I get to the cross, The closer I get to the cross, The more amazed I am by grace.
